High Class Problem: more old vine Barolo vineyards than you can vinify
Maurizio Sanso, the young winemaker and owner of Cascina Sòt Winery in Monforte d’Alba explains to ADYA Global’s Portfolio Curator Adam Seger about his winery expansion.
Maurizio’s grandfather bought the 400 year old Langhe farmhouse named Cascina Sòt along with its ancient hillside vineyards decades ago and farmed them along with Maurizio’s father, not making wine, only selling the grapes to prestigious wineries.
Maurizio is the first in his family to make wine from the Vineyards, starting in 2004. They only have capacity to vinify half of their Vineyards, selling the rest to the best of Barolo producers, so he now has plans to expand the winery and take full advantage of their old vine, south facing, hillside, Guyot Counter-Espalier trained vines. His San Pietra vineyard Nebbiolo vines are producing extraordinary grapes at 94 years old, his Barbera d’Alba Superiore vines are 75 years old, and he has stunning Clay and Limestone grown, hillside Chardonnay and Naschetta vines as well.
With the upcoming expansion of his winery and ADYA Global as his exclusive US Importer, Maurizio has all the elements to be soon be able to estate vinify all of his stunning fruit.
