Um passeio em vídeo pela nossa exposição actual “I kissed the snake hello” de Adriana Proganó.
A 3+1 Arte Contemporânea tem o prazer de apresentar I kissed the snake hello, a primeira exposição individual de Adriana Proganó (Lucerna, 1992) na galeria.
O trabalho de Adriana Proganó parte de um imaginário próprio, em que o gesto de pintar é um ímpeto, não só espontâneo, mas necessário. Pinturas com cores vibrantes e pinceladas destemidas, sem restrições, são testemunhos do que ocupa a mente da artista naquele instante. O corpo e o peso das normas sociais são temáticas frequentes nas suas obras, nunca esquecendo a genuinidade e humor, numa vontade de criar que não pode ser contida.
Em I kissed the snake hello, Proganó apresenta uma nova série de pinturas sobre tela que falam não tanto da relação entre o humano e a natureza, mas, de algo mais importante: da sua união. Os seres humanos respiram o ar das árvores, mas as árvores também respiram o ar dos humanos. Esta relação simbiótica que envolve todos os seres vivos é algo que interessa à artista explorar agora, representando momentos em que esta ligação acontece.
As personagens que habitam estas pinturas são aquelas já características em Proganó: com corpos ambíguos que desafiam as noções de género e que, apesar de claramente humanas, assumem formas quase místicas, como se fazendo parte de uma mitologia inventada pela própria artista. A diferença desta vez são as intensões destas figuras: se em trabalhos anteriores tinham estado quase sempre ao ataque – destruindo, interrompendo e dando asas aos seus caprichos –, agora têm uma posição protectora, fortalecendo o seu laço com a natureza.

A video walk through our current exhibition “I kissed the snake hello” by Adriana Proganó.
3+1 Arte Contemporânea is pleased to present I kissed the snake hello, the first solo exhibition by Adriana Proganó (Lucerne, 1992) at the gallery.
Adriana Proganó’s work is based on her own imaginary, in which the gesture of painting is an impetus, not only spontaneous, but necessary. Paintings with vibrant colours and fearless, unrestrained brushstrokes are testimony to what occupies the artist’s mind at that moment. The body and the weight of social norms are frequent themes in her works, never forgetting genuineness and humour, in a will to create that cannot be contained.
In I kissed the snake hello, Proganó presents a new series of paintings on canvas that speak not so much of the relationship between humans and nature, but of something more important: their union. Human beings breathe the air of the trees, but the trees also breathe the air of humans. This symbiotic relationship that involves all living beings is something the artist is interested in exploring now, representing moments when this connection happens.
The characters that inhabit these paintings are those already characteristic to Proganó: with ambiguous bodies that defy notions of gender and that, although clearly human, take on almost mystical forms, as if part of a mythology devised by the artist herself. The difference this time are the intensions of these figures: if in previous works they had almost always been on the attack – destroying, interrupting and giving wings to their whims –, now they have a protective position, strengthening their bond with nature.
