The Kindom of Love, with Rev. Morgan Schmidt. A Spacious Christianity, First Presbyterian Church of Bend, Oregon. Scripture: Luke 15.1-3;11-32.

Our worship service this Sunday is the bittersweet, final worship service for the Reverend Morgan Schmidt. As our pastor for Teens and 20-somethings, Morgan has served this community for over seven years. Her ministry has had a profound impact on our lives, and the lives of so many in the wider community and the world. Join us as we take time to express our deep gratitude for Morgan’s gifts, and her heart. As Morgan steps into a new calling, seeking to serve the community in a new way through elected office, we want to make sure that she goes forth into this new chapter in her life with our prayers, our love, and our deepest blessings.

About the Series, Good Enough: Embracing Imperfections of Life and Faith (A Lent Series based on Kate Bowler’s Good Enough – 40ish Devotionals For a Life of Imperfection). Lent marks the forty days leading to Easter, mirroring the forty days Jesus spent in the wilderness. It is a practice that began in the 4th century as a way to prepare for the holiest days of the year. Lent is a season of truth telling and raw honesty acknowledging life is both beautiful; and so very hard. Many people practice Lent by giving something up or taking on something new. This year we are going to use a devotional book and reflection guide by Kate Bowler called Good Enough: 40ish Devotionals for a Life of Imperfection. We’re going to give up on the idea that life is always getting bigger and better in every way and embrace a life and faith that embraces imperfections and is good enough.

At First Presbyterian, you will meet people at many different places theologically and spiritually. And we love it that way. We want to be a place where our diversity brings us together and where conversation takes us all deeper in our understanding of God.

We call this kind of faith “Spacious Christianity.” We don’t ask anyone to sign creeds or statements of belief. The life of faith is about a way of being in the world and a faith that shows itself in love.
